Types of veneers
Veneers are thin, lightweight sheets that solve the aesthetic problem of tooth defects in the visible area. Because the shape of teeth, their color, or their size spoil your mood and cause discomfort, we install similar orthopedic structures on their outer surface.
There are two types of veneer : composite and porcelain.
Composite is also called therapeutic or restorative. They are made of a material similar to that of which sealants are made. This type of facing is less expensive than ceramic and is easy for the dentist to correct. Composite becomes dull over time, changes color and does not look as natural as ceramic.
Porcelain veneers are much more reliable and aesthetic than composites. These thin and light plates with a thickness of 0.5-1 mm are made in the laboratory by dental technicians using digital images. The ready-made structures fit perfectly on the teeth and protect them from bacterial invasion.
Some customers think that grinding is not necessary with composite facings. This is not true. In both cases, the teeth need to be corrected. But at Aesthetic Dental Center, we use precisely centered drills and microscopes, therefore we minimize the impact on the teeth and only work within the enamel layer to the strictly required depth.
Characteristics of installing porcelain veneers
Installation of porcelain veneers takes 2-3 visits. During the initial consultation, we will find out what problem you want to solve with the help of facing, whether it is adjusting the shape, color or aligning the teeth. In some cases, prior orthodontic treatment is required.
Furthermore, the dentist at Aesthetic Dental Center models your future smile using wax-up and mock-up technologies. It creates a silicone impression of facing, so you can try it on and correct it if necessary. This technique is only used by dentists with high-level technological equipment. After all adjustments have been made, the doctor carefully prepares the tooth, after which a new impression is made. A scan of this impression is sent to an Italian laboratory and the teeth are sealed with temporary plates. In the laboratory, facings are made within 3 days to 2 weeks. When the finished designs are received, we adjust them and if the result suits you, we place them on your teeth.
Life span and maintenance of porcelain veneer
Porcelain veneer will last as long as your teeth. They require no special care. You should take care of them the same way you would take care of real enamel: don't gnaw on hard objects, clean twice a day, and see your dentist regularly.
